Snowing in May!

I guess I didn’t take any Emily pictures today, but it did snow!

So sleepy!

Today we took Emily home at long last.

How could you not love this squishy face?

Emily’s last day in the hospital. Look Mom, no tubes! She even seems to be smiling in her sleep, having momentarily forgotten all the trials and troubles she just went through. She’s snug and cozy, Mommy is nearby, and she’s been surrounded by so much love from the nurses and her family these past two weeks, so all is well. Sweet dreams, my honey pie!

Octopus dreads!

Louis celebrated his first birthday as a Dad today! Sadly, there was no cake. But there was joy, and laughter, and utter exhaustion to the bones. Our beautiful babe is on the road to going home!

Going back in time to write up these back-dated posts almost three months later has been wonderful, but I’m finding looking at the pictures of her in the hospital to be difficult. I knew this time was filled with joy, but we were also so fraught, so unravelled from the fresh trauma. I know that I was in awe of our little girl, but I don’t think I was able to fully savor these moments of her life. Not like today. When I realize that I grow more and more in love with Emily every day, what that means is that these pictures represent a time when I was mostly just in shock and barely holding it together. Sure, I was amazed, relieved, and so so happy to hold my baby girl at last, but it was nothing compared to the pure love and joy that I feel today. It’s good to be here now, but thinking about this time is hard.

Chocolate cake will fix you right up if you’re trying to get back on your feet! It’s just science.

Grandma and Grandpa are so so happy to be holding their first granddaughter!

Hey, you’ve gotta keep body and soul together when times are tough!

We were so thankful to have Louis and Evelyn drive up from Oklahoma to come see us at the hospital. We needed all the extra hugs and love we could get!
