Yes, you did.

Yes, you did.

Finally starting to do a little decorating of the nursery! This was supposed to happen after I finished work and before the due date. Right! It's never too late.

Oh no! Em goes from perfectly calm and happily playing to angry-exhausted-DONE and needing a nap in 2 seconds flat.

One of these days I'll catch her in a smile. I've been trying! She smiles so much now, but never for the camera.

I apparently only took one photo on this day, so this’ll have to do.

Emily is really filling out more of her carrier, almost able to peak out above what are supposed to be her shoulder straps!

Playing catch-up on posts again. After 8 years of living with someone who wakes up at least 4 hours later than me, I’m having to relearn how to be social in the morning. Failing spectacularly, but then again Emily sets the bar low for what constitutes socialization, and does not yet require erudition and complex analysis of world events. Her 5:30 am feeding I’ve decided to designate a “night” feeding (even though the sun rises halfway through), which means no talking, all business, and all efforts focussed on getting done in under 30 minutes so we can go back to sleep, both of us. This helps my sanity a lot!

I’ve noticed a distinct lack of photos with Daddy in them, so I shall attempt to remedy that.

Red christmas lights illuminate Emily's bedroom so that I can see her just well enough to replace her pacifier 40 times at 3:00am while I try to sleep and get her to sleep at the same time....

Walkies!

Walkies!

In case you’re counting, Emily has now spent a total of 4 solid days trying to figure out how her hands work. Why do they move seemingly at random? How come I can’t pull my middle finger off? and Why, oh God Why can’t I consistently get my fist into my mouth, which is all I’ve ever really wanted in my entire brief life?

So now on day 5 of “Project Hands” she has begun to use the hands to feel and grab at Other Things. This seems to delight her, and will likely constitute a much larger project.

The adults have several projects in the works as well. One of them is called “Get Emily out of the House”. Progress has been slow. We go on walks in the carrier, which is great, but Mom has wild and crazy dreams of walking around downtown for like, 20 minutes maybe? Status of the project: Stroller has been acquired, but has wheels that need to be inflated. Neither of my two bike pumps fit. Argh, what? To be fair, once that obstacle is overcome, this stroller is going to be awesome, and able to handle (not super rocky) trails without jostling the baby too much. It should be a vast improvement over solid rubber tires.

Emily is conducting exhaustive research on Mommy's hand now.

Other objects of interest: A Peter Rabbit pillow that plays music.

The other slight hurdle to get over is that our car seat was … um … blessed by the cat with a holy water whose perfume has withstood several washings and disinfectings (have yet to try exorcism). Awaiting a shipment of extra-strength enzyme-based pet stank cleaner ….

So, we are determined! Everything in its own time.

Today Emily seems to have discovered her hands! Right on target, according to the Wonder Weeks app that I’ve been using to track her development. It is so amazing to watch her purposely reach out and grab things, and to play with her hands while feeling the nice texture of the couch and watching the shadows that her hands make. She is clearly noticing so many more fine details now!
